Argentiere Glacier

Starting from the Grand Montets carpark this walk although not technically difficult involves an ascent of 1050m so could be classed as medium to difficult and requires a good level of fitness. However, utilising the Grand Montets cable car can cut out the first 700m of the ascent.

The walk is approximately 8.25km and ends by taking the Grand Montet cable car back down to the starting point.

From Chamonix Argentiere can be reached by the Mont Blanc express train from the main train station or via bus from Place du Mont Blanc, or alternatively, by car simply by heading up the N506, there is usually plenty of parking available in the Grand Montets cablecar carpark. If travelling by train, leave the station and turn left onto the main road (N506) and follow the road down the hill, after passing underneath a railway bridge go down the set of steps on the left onto a road leading into a set of tall buildings, follow the road round to the right and then to the left going over the bridge and arriving at the Grand Montets cable car.
