The Arve RiverStarting from Argentiere this is a relatively easy walk along the Arve river to Chamonix.
The walk is approximately 8km and should take around 2 hours of walking time to complete. Starting at 1200m altitude the route descends to Chamonix at 1042m. However an ascent is required of about 100m to join the Petite Balcon Sud path after passing through the small village of Les Tines. From Chamonix Argentiere can be reached by the Mont Blanc express train from the main train station or via bus from Place du Mont Blanc, or alternatively, by car simply by heading up the N506, there is usually plenty of parking available in the Grand Montets cablecar carpark. If travelling by train, leave the station and turn left onto the main road (N506) and follow the road down the hill
bridge over the Arve river. If travelling by car return to the main road and turn right and head over the same bridge.
