Refuge Albert I.Starting from Le Tour to the Refuge Albert I hut and the Le Tour glacier this walk is of medium difficulty. However two sections have a rail embedded in the rock as a safety feature which may be intimating to those with little alpine walking experience. Also be aware that until late summer it is common to find snowfields which must be crossed. Walking poles or ski poles are highly recommended!
The walk will take about 2-3 hours walking time, is 7.3km long (including return journey) and involves an ascent of of around 500m (not including the ascent provided by the lifts) Starting from the Le Tour cable car station , the inital ascent is via the cable car and then the Autannes ski lift to Charmillion. To check whether the lifts are running on a particular day contact the Compagnie du Mont Blanc or refer to their website (you can find their contact details in the Useful Info) section. From Chamonix, Le Tour can be reached by bus or car, the train does not go directly to Le Tour but stops at Montroc and requires a walk up to to Le Tour of around 10-15 minutes.
To get there by car drive up the N506 through Argentiere, just after leaving the town there is a right turn
over a bridge to Le Tour. From this point simply follow the road until you arrive.
